Delfina hosts its first Green Event

On Monday 23rd March 2009 Delfina was host to parent company The Concerto Group's conference. The event, which was planned by sister company Eventwise, followed the new BS8901 specification; these guidelines are designed to advise on how to run a sustainable event management system.

The 120 attendees were invited to the afternoon conference session that was held in the Exhibition Gallery, the Café Gallery provided a space for lunch and coffees during breaks. Guests were then entertained in the Café Gallery for an evening drinks reception whilst the Exhibition Gallery was beautifully transformed for the awards ceremony, dinner and party.

The Concerto Group has committed to improving its sustainability and has set objectives across the Group. At the event itself, the following actions were taken to improve the sustainability of the event:
  • Guests arrived on public transport or by foot
  • Delfina provided delicious fair trade and locally sourced food
  • Lighting was primarily low wattage - using LED lighting
  • Table centres were recycled
  • A "Green" award was given to the division showing the most commitment to sustainable development
  • Awards were made from fair trade, sustainable wood
  • All possible materials were recycled post event
As per the BS8901 specification, The Concerto Group will be continually measuring and improving on their initial commitment and working more closely with clients and suppliers to create more sustainable events.
